Here’s your reminder to take a break and do some Here’s your reminder to take a break and do something entirely for you! For me, this was a quick little getaway to the mountains with my husband for our 5 year anniversary 🏔💕

I know vacations aren’t always feasible but even doing something small for yourself like taking a really hot shower with no interruptions or reading for pleasure for a half hour can make a HUGE difference. We can’t take care of others if we never take care of ourselves!

 student edition!

My PhD program starts with a week long “intensive” where we are introduced to the program and get to meet our faculty mentors and other students.

I haven’t chosen my dissertation topic just yet but I’m fairly certain it will deal with advanced pathophysiology and critical care. I’m a huge science nerd so getting to combine my love for pathophysiology and research is truly a dream come true.

It’s going to be a wild ride over the next 4-5 years, especially with working as full-time faculty and maintaining my bedside clinical practice but I’m up for the challenge!

Alright guys, it was time for a name change! I ori Alright guys, it was time for a name change! I originally started this page as a medium for promoting my Etsy business but I’m ready to branch out.

Introducing caffeineq6_prn which encompasses my love for all things ☕️and nursing. And also the fact that I literally could not survive without caffeine 😅

My page will now focus more on:
▪️My role in academia. I am starting as a full-time nursing instructor this Fall and I’d love to show you all what it’s really like!

▪️My job as a bedside nurse. I am a former critical care nurse and currently work part-time on a medical intermediate unit to maintain my skills.

▪️My job as a forensic nurse. I just started training to become a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) so I’m super excited about such a specialized role!

▪️Life as a PhD student. I start my program next week so I’ll be taking you along that journey with me 🤓

▪️As always, I’ll post NCLEX tips, study hacks, and nursing notes.

Welcome to my busy life - I’m so excited that you’re here and following along! 🥰

New job alert! 🚨🎉 After taking New job alert! 🚨🎉

After taking on a full-time professor role starting this Fall, I needed to find something a little more PRN at the bedside. So I’ll be starting a job working in a medical intermediate unit this month!

It’s SO important for me as an educator to stay clinically relevant at the bedside because things in healthcare change so quickly. I’m also pretty excited to take on this specific role because the patient acuity is a little lower and the ratios (4:1) a little higher than I’m used to in the ICU. It will definitely be a different kind of challenge!

I also want to take a minute to give a shout-out to some other really awesome nurses that are selling notes and other resources while still working at the bedside. If you haven’t already (which I’m sure you have because they’re way more well known than I am), check out @cecestudyguides, @yournursingeducator, and @stephaneebeggs. These ladies do a phenomenal job of posting on educational topics and what I love most is they all still work as nurses so you know what they’re saying is accurate and up to date.

P.S. This post is in no way bashing nurses that work non-bedside jobs. All nurses are equally important 🥰

Here’s a little review of the chain of infection Here’s a little review of the chain of infection and ways we can stop the spread of disease 🛑🦠Feel free to bookmark or screenshot this post for your reference!

As healthcare providers we need to be extra careful to protect our vulnerable patients from being exposed to pathogens.

What is the MOST IMPORTANT thing we can do to limit the spread of infection?
Hand hygiene! 🧼✋🏼

Other important nursing interventions include:
🔹 “Scrub the hub” - be sure to scrub your IV lines (especially centrally placed lines) with alcohol-based solution before giving any medications or flushes.
🔹 Be extra cautious with indwelling (foley) catheters to prevent CAUTIs - things like using sterile technique for insertion, catheter care each shift, and advocating for their prompt removal
🔹Use PPE appropriately
🔹Educate patients and family members about optimal hygiene practices

For more notes like these, be sure to check out my Etsy shop (link in bio!)

What are some other interventions we can do to limit the spread of disease? Comment below if you can think of any! ⬇️
